The Harbour School Sydney

The Harbour School Sydney is based at the Sydney Institute of Marine Science, and provides and facilitates education, skills and training experiences across diverse harbour sites. It provides a valuable connection between educational facilities, harbour sites, research institutions and businesses, and fosters interdisciplinary learning about ocean literacy and environments.

Living Seawalls Launch

We were happy to be invited recently to be part of the launch of a new Living Seawalls installation at Blues Point Reserve. This installation was a collaboration between Living Seawalls and SailGP. The launch involved a beautiful kayak led by Sydney By Kayak, and the event was also attended by students and staff from Reddam House.

Blue Schools Australia Network

Picture
If your school undertakes, or has undertaken, a practical project to engage students in learning about the ocean, harbours or local waterways, you should consider joining the Blue Schools Australia Network.

Aims of the Blue School Australia Network are: to improve ocean literacy; to promote school projects which engage students with the ocean, harbours or local waterways; to improve understanding about the blue economy and opportunities for students to engage with it.

Picture

Interested schools and individuals should be committed to engaging students in projects to facilitate learning about issues such as water quality, aquatic and intertidal ecosystems, the interconnectedness between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, aquatic ecosystem restoration, catchment management, etc.

Schools should be open to exploring the Blue Schools concept more fully, with the possibility of more formalised structures and standards for Blue Schools in the future.
