The Harbour School Sydney

Earth's Natural Systems

This excursion explores the Earth's Natural Systems Year 11 Geography topic. Chowder Bay offers a rich environment for ecological, atmospheric, geomorphic and hydrological systems. Land and water cover change is investigated through case studies on rocky shores, seagrass and kelp. The concept of habitat connectivity is explored as a way of investigating the interconnected nature of earth's natural systems.

Examples of fieldwork undertaken as part of this excursion:
- quadrat surveys
- intertidal transect
- underwater transects
- dip netting
- water testing
- underwater cameras
- eDNA testing

A 2 hour snorkel is available to complement this excursion through an external provider.
