The Harbour School Sydney

Incursions

Delivered onsite at your school in the Sydney Metropolitan area. $300 for up to 40 students. 2 hour sessions.
Primary
Seagrass and Seahorses

Stage 2 - HSIE and Science
Students learn about the importance of seagrass as a habitat, and efforts to restore seagrass meadows.

An Introduction to the Great Southern Reef

Stage 2 - HSIE and Science
Students are introduced to the importance of the Great Southern Reef, and the organisms that live in it.

Living Seawalls

Stage 3 - HSIE and Science

Students learn about the biodiversity of intertidal zones and the importance of natural environments in providing important microhabitats. They learn about how Living Seawalls help to provide microhabitats in built environments.

Secondary
Great Southern Reef Case Study

Stage 5 Marine and Aquaculture Elective
Stage 5&6 Geography

Students learn about the Great Southern Reef, human impacts impact the GSR, responses and strategies implemented,  and how research and innovation contribute to the management of the GSR.

This in-class presentation will address human-induced modifications, responses and strategies implemented and the role of research and innovation in effective management of the Great Southern Reef. It will include a discussion of techniques used to assess health of the reef and fieldwork undertaken to assess the effectiveness of management strategies and ecosystem restoration efforts.

Living Seawalls

Stage 5, Marine and Aquaculture Elective &
Stage 5 Geography

Students learn about the processes and ecological functioning of intertidal zones and the importance of natural environments in providing important microhabitats. They explore human modification to environments, including reclamation, and learn about how eco-engineering such as Living Seawalls help to provide microhabitats in built environments.

Ecosystem Restoration

Stage 6 Marine
Stage 5 Geography

Students learn about the human impacts on marine environments, the concept of ecosystem restoration and examples of ecosystem restoration in Sydney Harbour.
