Living Seawalls - Marine and Civil Engineering

Students will explore displays to understand a range of marine infrastructure solutions and undertake quadrat sampling of Living Seawalls to gain an understanding of biodiversity enhancement.

Location:
Clontarf and/or Chowder Bay
School will need to organise their own transport.

Marine structures

• Identify built structures used to modify the marine environment
• Discuss the purpose and function for built structures in marine environments   

Impacts of engineered structures

• Discuss the beneficial impacts of engineered structures 
• Discuss current problems caused by some structures not foreseen at the time of construction (e.g. impact on biodiversity and physical processes) 
• Evaluate possible alternatives to marinas

Excursions need a minimum of 15 students to run, or a minimum payment of $600 (including GST).
