New Senior Geography programming, case studies and fieldwork
The new Stage 6 Geography syllabus is due for implementation in 2024 with staff required to teach the new syllabus in Year 11 in 2024 and Year 12 in 2025. Allow us to work with your team to support programming and resourcing for the new Senior Geography syllabus. We will provide:
- a new syllabus overview
- programming support
- case studies
- fieldwork integration
NSW Curriculum Reform
Many schools have been holding off on revising teaching and learning programs due to the imminent curriculum reform syllabus releases. These dates have now been pushed back, meaning that schools will be teaching from existing syllabuses and teaching and learning programs in most subjects for another few years.
What can we offer your faculty?
We can work with your faculty to revise existing programs and integrate local content and experiences to engage students. We can give you ideas on local fieldwork, and we can work with your team to integrate key objectives such as literacy, numeracy as well as the other cross curriculum priorities in a meaningful way. We can provide ideas for differentiation in programs to cater for your full range of students including HPGE students EAL/D students and students requiring learning and support.
We can visit your school for faculty meetings and lead your team through the process of reviewing programs, identifying the strengths in your current programs, and identifying the areas needing attention. We can provide structure and guidance to develop quality teaching and learning programs.
Revised syllabus release dates:
Senior Geography (implementation in Year 11 2024, first examined in HSC 2025))
Science 7-10 (implementation 2026)
Geography 7-10 (implementation 2027)
History 7-10 (implementation 2027)
Work Education (implementation 2027)

The Harbour School Sydney can play a vital role in providing professional learning opportunities for teachers focused on marine environments in various subjects like geography, marine studies, science, commerce, work education, and history. Some of the professional learning we will provide is:
Environmental Sustainability Training: Training sessions on environmental sustainability, which can benefit teachers across multiple subjects. These sessions can focus on sustainable practices, conservation efforts, and the role of schools and students in protecting marine environments.
Educational Technology Workshops: Workshops on incorporating educational technology and interactive resources into lessons about Sydney Harbour's marine ecosystems.
Curriculum Development Workshops: Sessions to assist teachers in developing curriculum materials aligned with local marine topics. This can help educators in geography, marine studies, and history create engaging and teaching and learning programs and relevant lesson plans.
Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: We can facilitate opportunities for teachers from different subjects to collaborate on interdisciplinary projects, and encourage educators to explore how geography, marine studies, science, commerce, work education, and history can intersect in lessons about Sydney Harbour.
