Streamwatch
|
Streamwatch and The Harbour School Sydney are launching Streamwatch for Schools. We are hosting two days - 11 and 12 June, where students can be introduced to Streamwatch water testing and citizen science.
Students will take part in a series of hands-on field activities. Working along Parramatta River, they’ll use Streamwatch water testing equipment to measure key indicators such as pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, temperature, and nutrient levels. Guided by educators and facilitators from both The Harbour School Sydney and the Greater Sydney Landcare Streamwatch Program, students will learn correct sampling techniques, calibration methods, and how to ensure data quality. Students will contribute meaningful data to a broader environmental monitoring effort. They can investigate how urban impacts, weather patterns, and land use influence water quality, and discuss how these findings relate to river health - from local creeks through to Sydney Harbour. This enables students to see themselves as active participants in environmental stewardship. Results of testing are logged by The Harbour School Sydney into the Atlas of Living Australia (ALA), contributing to datasets used by researchers, land managers, and community groups across the country. Location: Parramatta Maximum group size: 30 Price: FREE Limited spaces available. Complete an EOI using the QR code to register your interest. |
